Commandments and Laws

No matter of what one thinks about the last presidential election, it had opened many eyes to the “Constitutional Crisis” in the aftermath of the election. The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the Land (+ 10 Amendments – Bill of Rights) as the 10 Commandments are the Supreme law of the Kingdom of Heaven. Under these are other laws for the governance of the Land (USC Codes) and the Kingdom of God (Levitical Statues). For today’s edification, let’s review some New Testament definitions.                                                                                                              From Strong’s Concordance:

Law – (G3551) nomos – from the prime “nemo” (to parcel out, especially food or grazing to animals); LAW (through the idea of prescriptive usage), generally (Regulation) specifically (of Moses [including the volume]; also, of the Gospel, or figuratively (a principle): – LAW {Used in Matt. 5:18}

Commandment(s) – (G1785) entole – from 1781; INJUNCTION, i.e., an authoritative prescription: – COMMANDMENT(S) > PRECEPT. {Used in John 14:15 and Matt. 5:19}

>(G1781) enteliomia – from 1722 and base of 5056; to ENJOIN: – (give) charge, command (-ments), INJOIN.

>(G1722) en – preposition denoting (FIXED) position (in place, time or state) and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e., a relation of rest…

>(G5056) telos – from a prime “teilo” (to set out for a definite point or goal) properly the point aimed at as a LIMIT, i.e. (by implication) the CONCLUSION of an act or state (TERMINATION [ literally or figuratively], RESULT (immediately, ultimate or prophetic) PURPOSE, specifically an IMPOST or LEVY as paid) + continual, custom, end (-ing), finally, uttermost.

Jesus tells us that he didn’t come to change the Law, not one jot or one title, which is in addition to and under the Ten Commandments, the SUPREME CONSTITUTION of the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus also tells us how to prove our love for him as if a type of “Proof of Purchase” for the “LEVY” he paid – for the forgiveness of sin, which is transgression of the Law. AND, as in the “Bill of Rights” we have “freedom of choice” to keep or not to keep the Commandments and the Law. Of course, for every choice there is a consequence. It follows the law in physics that states: for every action there must be a reaction. Somewhere along the historical sand of time, some were changed along with times. (Dan. 7:25, Isaiah 24:5, Rev. 17)
