Rumors of War

In the Sacred Scriptures Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 24:6 that there would be wars and “rumours of wars”. Well, we all know what a rumor is, but just what is a rumor of war? Most rumors are just what the English definition says it is: a popular report, common gossip; also, reputation or a story circulated without known foundation or authority, an unverified report passing from person to person, a confusing sound, confusion or murmur. Well, when politics, economics and religion is thrown into the mix, it can get really confusing and more than a murmur (babble). Let’s see the Biblical definition for “rumours” from the Greek.

Strong’s: G189 – ἀκοή – hearing (the act, the sense or the thing heard)
Derivation: from G191;

KJV Usage: audience, ear, fame, which ye heard, hearing, preached, report, rumor.

Strong’s: G191 – ἀκούω – to hear (in various senses)
Derivation: a primary verb;

KJV Usage: give (in the) audience (of), come (to the ears), (shall) hear(-er, -ken), be noised, be reported, understand.

All have heard of wars and many have seen wars, whether it be as a soldier or a civilian. It’s been a long time since America has seen war on her soil. She has seen a lot of it lately in her cyber space, whether from other nations or privateers, who just may be working for some nation. Cyber warfare was used in our last election. Some rumors may even get the outcome wrong, especially when it’s preached from a pulpit. Some assumptions are based on military and/or political experience. We all have seen lately the tensions in the South China Sea and the debate over Taiwan. Then there is the gain of function investigations and the China connection. China is the land of the dragon and fire breathing ones don’t hold their breath when push comes to shove.
