Prophetic Swords in Scripture

A sword in scripture isn’t necessarily the type that is held in the hand and used as a sharp metal weapon of war. A sword can be any number of weapons of destruction such as pestilence and drought, which can cause food and/or energy shortages. Is not food the energy source for mankind? Gas and oil are only luxuries when one really thinks about it. Usually, war between nations erupts over energy sources, especially oil and gas, but food shortages can lead to riots. Fights and even gun violence have erupted in gas lines. Think what can happen when food shelves are emptier than they currently are.

The Lord said, “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword (G3162).” (Matt. 10:34)

*G3162 – μάχαιρα – a knife, i.e. dirk; figuratively, war, judicial punishment. Derivation: probably feminine of a presumed derivative of G3163; KJV Usage: sword.

>G3163 – μάχη – a battle, i.e. (figuratively) controversy
Derivation: from G3164; KJV Usage: fighting, strive, striving.

>>G3164 – μάχομαι – to war, i.e. (figuratively) to quarrel, dispute
Derivation: middle voice of an apparently primary verb; KJV Usage: fight, strive.

*******

Striving for peace is a constant fight. Striving for truth is a constant battle in the great controversy of its ongoing quarrel and dispute. The war between good and evil will end with judicial punishment.

Zechariah 13:7-9

Awake (H5782), O sword (H2719), against my shepherd (plural- H7462), and against the man (mankind/persons – H1397) that is my fellow (H5997), saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd(s), and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones. And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.  And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.

*H5782) – עוּר – ‛ûr – oor – A primitive root (rather identical with H5783 through the idea of opening the eyes); to wake (literally or figuratively) KJV Usage: (a-) wake (-n, up), lift up (self), X master, raise (up), stir up (self).

>H5783 -עוּר – ‛ûr – oor – A primitive root; to (bebare. KJV Usage: be made naked.

*H2719 – חרב – chereb – kheh’-reb – From H2717drought; also a cutting instrument (from its destructive effect), as a knifesword, or other sharp implement. KJV Usage: axe, dagger, knife, mattock, sword, tool.

>H2717 – חרב חרב – chârab chârêb – khaw-rab’, khaw-rabe’ – A primitive root; to parch (through drought), that is, (by analogy) to desolatedestroy, kill. KJV Usage: decay, (be) desolate, destroy (-er), (be) dry (up), slay, X surely, (lay, lie, make) waste.

*H7462 – רעה – râ‛âh  raw-aw’ – A primitive root; to tend a flock, that is, pasture it; intransitively to graze (literally or figuratively); generally to rule; by extension to associate with (as a friend) KJV Usage: X break, companion, keep company with, devour, eat up, evil entreat, feed, use as a friend, make friendship with, herdman, keep [sheep] (-er), pastor, + shearing house, shepherd, wander, waste.

*H1397 – גּבר – geber – gheh’-ber – From H1396; properly a valiant man or warrior; generally a person simply. KJV Usage: every one, man, X mighty.

>H1396 – גּבר – gâbar – gaw-bar’ – A primitive root; to be strong; by implication to prevailact insolently. KJV Usage: exceed, confirm, be great, be mighty, prevail, put to more [strength], strengthen, be stronger, be valiant.

*H5997 – עמית – ‛âmı̂yth – aw-meeth’ – From a primitive root meaning to associatecompanionship; hence (concretely) a comrade or kindred man. KJV Usage: another, fellow, neighbour.

There is a drought of truth upon the earth. It has become desolate by the doctrines and traditions of man. (John 7:16-17, Matt. 15:9, Mark 2:7, Col. 2:8,22, 1Tim. 4:1, Heb. 13:9, Rev. 2:14-15, 22) Theologians seek to destroy it. Its shepherds have kept company with it, eating it up with evil entreat as a friend making friendships at the shearing house with the sheep as they wander and waste. Insolent and haughty have the shepherds become.

Ezekiel 34

KJV(i) 1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks? 3 Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock. 4 The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them. 5 And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered. 6 My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them. 7 Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; 8 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock; 9 Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; 10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. 11 For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. 13 And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country. 14 I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. 15 I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD. 16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment. 17 And as for you, O my flock, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I judge between cattle and cattle, between the rams and the he goats. 18 Seemeth it a small thing unto you to have eaten up the good pasture, but ye must tread down with your feet the residue of your pastures? and to have drunk of the deep waters, but ye must foul the residue with your feet? 19 And as for my flock, they eat that which ye have trodden with your feet; and they drink that which ye have fouled with your feet. 20 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD unto them; Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat cattle and between the lean cattle. 21 Because ye have thrust with side and with shoulder, and pushed all the diseased with your horns, till ye have scattered them abroad; 22 Therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey; and I will judge between cattle and cattle. 23 And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. 24 And I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the LORD have spoken it. 25 And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods. 26 And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing. 27 And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them. 28 And they shall no more be a prey to the heathen, neither shall the beast of the land devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and none shall make them afraid. 29 And I will raise up for them a plant of renown, and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land, neither bear the shame of the heathen any more. 30 Thus shall they know that I the LORD their God am with them, and that they, even the house of Israel, are my people, saith the Lord GOD. 31 And ye my flock, the flock of my pasture, are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord GOD.

Revelation 19:15-16

“And out of his mouth (G4750) goeth a sharp sword (G4501), that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

*G4750 – στόμα – the mouth (as if a gash in the face); by implication, language (and its relations); figuratively, an opening (in the earth); specially, the front or edge (of a weapon) Derivation: probably strengthened from a presumed derivative of the base of G5114; KJV Usage: edge, face, mouth.

>G5114 – τομώτερος – more comprehensive or decisive than G2875, as if by a single stroke; whereas that implies repeated blows, like hacking; – more keen. Derivation: comparative of a derivative of the primary τέμνω – to cut; KJV Usage: sharper.

*G4501 – ῥομφαία – a sabre, i.e. a long and broad cutlass (any weapon of the kind, literally or figuratively) Derivation: probably of foreign origin; KJV Usage: sword.

The WORD OF GOD is keener than the words of mankind, and HIS words are written for us today. The  WORD OF GOD in the Old Testament became flesh in the New Testament and walked among His creation and became the Lamb of Father God to redeem their creation.

Hebrews 4

KJV(i) 1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper (G5114) than any twoedged (G1366) sword (G3162), piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. 14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

*G1366 – δίστομος – double-edged. Derivation: from G1364 and G4750; KJV Usage: with two edges, two-edged

>G1364 – δίς – twice. Derivation: adverb from G1417; KJV Usage: again, twice.

>>G1417 – δύο – “two” Derivation: a primary numeral; KJV Usage: both, twain, two.

*******

The two-edged sword is the Old Testament and the New Testament. Both sides are sharp, and they are the inspired written words of the WORD OF GOD! The philosophy of mankind cannot dull either side of that sword, for the abominations in the theology of man today will be cut down by THE KING OF KING AND LORD OF LORDS. The days of mankind’s dominion over the earth are drawing short as the day (year) of the Lord draws near.

The earth is still a vast wasteland for the truth of God, and as you so properly taught here unless the word is mixed with faith people will remain without the true knowledge they are in dyer need of! Have a Blessed Sabbath my Dear Friend.
