A Sabbath Message 11/19/22 – Favorite Verses

What’s Your Favorite Verse in The Bible?

What’s your favorite verse in the Bible? Most people say John 3:16. There are others, but if one was to take a poll, it would most likely be number one. The following is not a single verse, but my favorite passage:

John 14:8-21

Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?

He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments.

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

That’s a total of 14 verses, but it was the answer to Philip’s question. I have taken that passage rather personal for a long time. Although I have spelled my name, Phillip, it was mis-spelled on my birth certificate “Philip”. Had problems with that issue twice in my life; once when getting my security clearance in the military, and again when at age 62 when I went to file for my social security tax reimbursements with interest. Had to have a picture ID with “Philip”! So, I got a $10.00 NC ID with “Philip” and made them happy. Funny! All the Social Security taxes were collected under “Phillip”. And there was the two “o” instead of one “o” in the spelling of my last name. I’m two “l” one “o” with the VA and IRS and one “l” and two “o” with Social Security and Medicare. I’m both with the FBI with my birth certificate spelling as AKA.

Folks, that’s the truth!

When to comes to my favorite verse, more than likely it’s one that would not rank very high in a poll. The very last verse in John, my favorite gospel.

John 21:25

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

I would like to add to books – hard drives.

Yawl have a peaceful and restful Sabbath!
