Satanic Temple seeks to open ‘After School Satan’ clubs in elementary schools

The Satanic Temple on Monday contacted several school districts nationwide to announce plans to open “After School Satan” clubs at elementary schools in an effort to counter religious groups, The Washington Post reported.

Jay Howard-Brock, the former PTA president of Bradbury Heights Elementary School in Washington, D.C., said the Temple’s plan may mean having to eliminate all religious extracurricular clubs.

“It’s going to become a distraction,” she told The Post. “We should just abolish groups like that from being on school premises, because it just may offend someone. The kids really need to focus on the education piece.”

The Satanic Temple, despite its name, does not worship Beelzebub. The group claims it does not believe in any religion and uses Lucifer more as a mythical symbol.

The Temple said several dozen people from around the country have already volunteered to help with the clubs if they launch.

If the districts allow the clubs, it would pave the way for the Temple to create a counterpoint to evangelical Christian clubs in schools nationwide.

The Satanic Temple on Monday contacted school districts across the country to announce that it wants to open after-school clubs that focus on teaching reason and science, including at an elementary school in Prince George’s. At issue was the Biden administration’s interpretation of Section 1557 of the 2010 Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), which prohibits discrimination in health care on the basis of sex. In 2021, the Department of Health and Human Services issued an interpretation of Section 1557 saying the law also prohibits “discrimination on the basis of gender identity” and therefore requires doctors to perform “gender-affirming care.”….

Report finds hundreds of ‘acts of hostility’ targeting Christian churches

…The report, titled “Hostility Against Churches Is on the Rise in the United States,” explains, “Criminal acts of vandalism and destruction of church property are symptomatic of a collapse in societal reverence and respect for houses of worship and religion – in this case, churches and Christianity. Americans appear increasingly comfortable lashing out against church buildings, pointing to a larger societal problem of marginalizing core Christian beliefs, including those that touch on hot-button issues related to human dignity and sexuality.”

The FRC explained, “A total of 420 acts of hostility against churches occurred between January 2018 and September 2022 across 45 U.S. states and Washington, D.C. There were at least 57 pro-abortion acts of hostility against churches from January 2022 to September 2022. FRC documented 342 occurrences of vandalism, 58 arson attacks or attempts, 12 gun-related incidents, 11 bomb threats, and 19 other incidences (assault, threats, interruption of worship services, etc.). Twenty incidents (4.76 percent) fell into more than one category.”

The report there were the biggest number of attacks in California, with 51, followed by Texas, at 33, New York, 31, and Florida, 23.

“Violent or destructive incidences that interfere with an individual’s lawful free exercise of religion at their house of worship present a significant nationwide challenge and must be condemned,” the report said….
