COVID-19 Could Stem From Risky Experiments at Chinese Lab: Fauci

COVID-19 could have been the result of risky experiments at a laboratory in China, Dr. Anthony Fauci acknowledged in an interview over the weekend.
“A lab leak could be that someone was out in the wild maybe looking for different types of viruses in bats, got infected, went into a lab, and was being studied in a lab, and then came out of the lab,” said Fauci, the former director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). “The other possibility is someone takes a virus from the environment that doesn’t actually spread very well in humans, and manipulates it a bit, and accidentally it escapes or accidentally infects someone and then you get an outbreak.”
The first COVID-19 cases were detected in 2019 in Wuhan, China, where a high-level laboratory is located. Scientists at the lab were funded in part by the NIAID.
Fauci, speaking on CNN, claimed that he’s “kept an open mind” as to the origin of COVID-19. However, he was involved in a paper that alleged in early 2020 that said SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19, was “not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus,” and cited the paper from the White House when asserting the virus had a natural origin….

Michigan Governor Admits Some COVID-19 Restrictions Didn’t ‘Make a Lot of Sense’

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer admitted over the weekend that Democrat leadership in the state imposed more COVID-19 lockdown measures than were actually needed.
In April 2020, Whitmer issued an executive order that barred most stores from selling gardening supplies, including seeds and plants, to Americans growing their own fruits and vegetables.
In a sit-down with CNN’s Chris Wallace on March 12, Whitmer was asked about Michigan’s tough lockdown policies, which were some of the nation’s most strict.
“There were moments where, you know, we had to make some decisions that in retrospect don’t make a lot of sense, right? If you went to the hardware store, you could go to the hardware store but we didn’t want people to be congregating around the garden supplies,” Whitmer said.
“People said ‘oh, she’s outlawed seeds.’ It was February in Michigan, no one was planting anyway,” she continued. “But that being said, some of those policies I look back and think, you know, maybe that was a little more than what we needed to do.”
On April 9, 2020, Whitmer’s office published a list on the state’s website that included items Michigan officials deemed “not necessary to sustain or protect life,” and thus could not be sold during the height of the pandemic.
The order stated that companies had to block areas of stores through various means or remove nonessential items, including gardening items, but also many other goods such as carpet or flooring materials, furniture, and paint.
Just weeks after Whitmer imposed the statewide controversial ban, the order was rescinded due to widespread backlash, including from the Institute for Justice.
In a letter (pdf), the non-profit law firm criticized the governor’s “unconstitutional prohibition” for “impeding the rights of the many Michigan families who seek to grow their own food.”…

Emails Reveal Journal’s Internal Discussions Before Rejecting Challenge to Pfizer’s Effectiveness Claim

Officials at a major journal discussed a professor’s alleged anti-vaccine Twitter activity when considering whether to publish his paper challenging the claim that Pfizer’s vaccine was 95 percent effective, newly disclosed emails show.
The Lancet journal ultimately rejected the rebuttal paper.
Professor Norman Fenton “retweeted anti-vaxx posts on Twitter,” one Lancet official wrote to colleagues.
They also discussed “vaccine misinformation” and Fenton’s background, the heavily redacted emails show.
“[redacted] have investigated him a little and he does seem to have a legitimate academic appointment,” reads one email, titled “Ongoing issues monitoring.”
Fenton, emeritus professor of risk at Queen Mary University of London, obtained the emails from Elsevier, which publishes The Lancet.
“We knew that all the main academic journals were routinely rejecting any articles that were in any way questioning the accuracy of studies claiming vaccine effectiveness or safety. What surprised even us about this case was the sheer nastiness and lack of professionalism displayed by the journal’s editorial staff,” Fenton told The Epoch Times via email.
“The notion that authors’ academic credentials and Twitter activities had to be investigated as part of the reviewing process is shocking.”
The Lancet didn’t respond to a request for comment.

COVID-19 Vaccines Can Cause ‘Permanent Disabilities,’ Says German Health Minister

Germany’s Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach, who once claimed that COVID-19 vaccination is free of side effects, admitted last week that he was wrong, saying adverse reactions occur at a rate of one in 10,000 doses and can cause “severe disabilities.”
On Aug. 14, 2021, Lauterbach said on Twitter that the vaccines had “no side effects,” further questioning why some Germans refused to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“In one case, a 21-year-old lady with severe learning disabilities went to hospital for a ‘routine’ eye operation and left the hospital dead. The coroner found that malnutrition contributed significantly to her death. This is despite her parents daily requesting clinical assistance with nutrition,” Dieppe reported. “In another case, a 68-year-old man went into hospital with constipation and left the hospital dead. After acquiring an infection, pneumonia, and sepsis, the hospital argued that further treatment would be futile, and sought withdrawal of treatment with the intention that the patient would die.”
Bogle said, “To dehydrate a person to death is an extremely painful and distressing way to die and is not always relieved by mere analgesic pain relief. Accordingly, unless the clinical staff can be sure that the patient is not suffering such distress, they must not allow dehydration lest the patient’s Article 3 rights are thereby violated.”…
